The next unseen episode will be shown on Tuesday 19th October 2004 night, after midnight (so strictly speaking the early hours of Wednesday 20th October 2004), at 02:05am - 02:55am: Pigsy Learns A Lesson The Fraction Demon goes around asking children questions about fractions, and kidnaps those who answer correctly. The pilgrims arrive at a small village and get mistaken for Fraction Demons by the vengeful locals. After a very close shave, Monkey gets a bit hot under the collar. Pigsy volunteers to track down the dazzlingly beautiful Fraction Demon and sort her out - but will he get otherwise distracted? I'm just interested to hear what you all think about the newly-dubbed Monkey episodes (which you can buy on DVD in Australia and the UK, or watch on UK terrestrial TV - Channel 4 - after midnight every Tuesday night). Here's some comments that have been posted to the Monkey Message Board: Message 1: although it was really good to see new episodes of monkey after so many years of watching the same ones over and over again, i must admit that i can see why there probably weren't shown back when they were originally made. the have preety violent scenes compared to the shows we have been used to. in nearly every episode someone tries or does commit suicide, one episode has a bandit stabbed mutiple times with spears and knives and another episode sees tripitaka get his arm and head cut off. another things that caught my attention was there are scatterings of language that was not used in the original episodes such as Sandy saying bullsh?? and that he p?ssed himself. it may not be much but that just doesn't seem like the old sandy. what does anyone else think????? Message 2: The voices do sound odd and the cast have added mostly unfunny dialogue to certain sections. As for the voice of Piggsy is he even trying ?!!?! Piggsy is a dirty old pig not a dirty old man :P. I hate to say it but I prefer the original subtitled lost versions Message 3 (from me): The actor who did the English voice of Pigsy, Peter Woodthorpe, had been ill for a very long time before working on these episodes, which is why his voice sounds different from when he first worked on them in the late 1970s. Then, less than a month after working on these episodes, Peter Woodthorpe died, aged 72. See this page for more information: http://www.monkeyheaven.com/dubbing_peterw.html Message 4: On the subject of the lost episodes, apart from the (now explained) dubbing of Pigsy, I don't think there were TOO many problems! You can definitely see why the BBC decided not to buy some of the episodes, especially last Tuesday's, where you see Tripitaka getting his arm cut off in his dreams, then his HEAD!! Other episodes baffled me as to what was wrong with them! I think the English scripting was brilliant, just like the old episodes, but the ocassional swear word really did bug me...who let that get through? To be honest, I didn't think much of Sandy saying the words 'Bird-Sh**' and someone else saying they 'P***ed themselves' (still haven't seen that bit, who was it, and is it in 'Am I dreaming'? I haven't seen the whole episode as I had the small matter of opening birthday presents that day! :-P)... I really don't see the point in suddenly slipping swear words in, sure the original audience may have grown up and may find it funny, and the writers may be banking on the programme being shown at 2 in the morning and no-one really being that bothered etc...but is anyone else thinking it's the perfect programme to show their children? I think it will be fantastic to just pop my kids in front of the telly in 10-20 years time and just let them watch Monkey as I'm only 16, now...But if Monkey and co. started swearing all of a sudden, I'll just have to skip those episodes...! Damn! Plus, the kid with toothache in last week's episode, I'm sorry...but whoever did the English speaking voice for him was absolutely APPALLING! Didn't even try and just slipped into speaking in some bored English teenager voice, without a hint of Japanese like the cast around him (or those who'd been in the studio and already recorded their lines)......great(!) - -- Let us know your comments!
