Although I think you already know it, the world of original Saiyuuki's tale is the mixture of Buddhism and Taoism. It's just like a tale which the gods of the Greece myth would appear in the Bible. Pigsy and YuLung are based on Taoism's God or god's Subordinate. Probably, Sandy is also related to Taoism, though his character is undefined. Monkey is based on Hinduism's god, although there's various opinion. Tripitaka is a historical figure of the 7th century. Buddha is, of course, the Buddhism's highest god. The other monsters and Heaven's residents are nearly related to the Taoism. Basically, Saiyuuki is a Chaotic world. That's a reason which Saiyuuki is called one of the four strangest novel in China. Furthermore, the Monkey of Japanese TV program is plus an element called NINZYO. This is a traditional element of Japanese comedy, Although I'm told there is no suitable word for English. It has made Monkey more warmhearted drama than the original. The original tale is sometimes a little cruel, because it's written in 500 years ago. Plus NINZYO being, the colors which are not in the original one, such as love and friendship, have appeared in this drama. I think, it makes the drama feel more fun. Some episodes are based on the Buddhism's tale, for example "The Power of Youth" or "Mothers", etc. Here is mixture between the original and Buddhism's tale too. Most TV episodes are original one or creative one or based on another Japanese tale. - -- Howell _________________________________________________________________ Tired of 56k? I got this from a Japanese Monkey fan. In the same way that David Weir deviated from the literal translations of the original Japanese scripts, the Japanese actors actually deviated from the original scripts too in the original Japanese version... which helped give Monkey its special charm. Here's his message: - -- Sakai, Nishida, Kishibe, are very good actor. They (especially Nishida) are genius in ad-lib. That is a very important element of Monkey's attractiveness. - -- Howell _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger - --------------------------------------------------------------------- + List guidelines: http://www.monkeyheaven.com/guidelines.html + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help?
