It wobbles slightly, and you can see clear impressions where his feet were! Heh. Monkey jumps with great force. Not polystyrene, then." Also, 2 responses to the "blooper": In the fights, even if they are sword against stick, you get that pinging sound that is characteristic of two swords clashing together. Have you noticed a few sparks flying on occasions as well? I'm not at all sure how you get a spark out of a sword hitting a stick - but there it is!! (Monkey magic perhaps?) Response 1: "My memory may be faulty (I have not seen the series for a while), however, I seem to recall Monkey's staff weapon is magic, and made of metal." Response 2: "The Arthur Waley translation describes Monkey's staff as being made from iron. I'm not sure if the TV show contradicts this, but a ping wouldn't be too strange a sound when struck by a sword, but a clang would have been even better." How many people are involved? What kind of music do you generally produce? I started doing House, Trance and Techno tracks under the name Perpetual Loop(P:l) several years ago. Recently I've wanted to branch out more. As P:l slowly became more underground, I wanted to create tracks that were more acceptable to the masses. I love groups like Groove Armada, Daft Punk, Blue state and Air, and the whole different styles of dance, hip hop, funk and ambience they produce. A very big sample culture. So, about a year ago, I started playing around with those sort of ideas. That sound I create under the name Grebeau. More recently Grebeau has become a two peice group, with Lindsay Morhall joining me on vocals as well as co-writing several of the newer tracks. 2) How did you get involved with the Monkey Magic remix project? I friend of mine in the North of England knew Howell (creator of MonkeyHeaven.com). Howell mentioned Fabulous Film's interest in comissioning remixes of Monkey Magic and was keen for me to have a go after listening to Grebeau's Eyes Closed. 3) Are you a big Monkey fan? I used to watch it when I was a youngster. Then lost touch with it. Through these remixes I've been re-introduced to it (and my childhood) and I've really enjoyed re-watching alot of the episodes. I wouldn't say I'm a BIG fan, but I'd say am definately a fan. How could you not like Monkey? 4) How would you describe the remixes? Did you use the show as inspiration for them? No. Well not to start off with. The starting point for each of the tracks was to define genres that are popular today like Trance, Disco, Big Beat etc. Then concentrating on one genre at a time I focused on doing a remix in that style. I'm very big on movies and their soundtracks and I love it when phrases from films are incorporated into tracks. So once each of the tracks were sketched out I then tried to incorporate some of the phrases from the show into the track, like the opening sequence. In the end I ended up with five remixes. Of course the main inspiration was the original track itself. 5) Have you produced remixes of any other famous songs, or do you generally work on original compositions? This is the first time I have been commissioned to do any remixes. I found the project very challanging and it was good to have a goal to focus on. I usually do original compositions, but I love the whole remix process and would definately look for work in this area again. I'm also trying to branch out in to music for films, as this I guess, is my first love. 6) What's your next project? I've got a couple of things on the go at the moment. I'm just putting the fininshing touches to a track that a small British independent film company - - Foiled Productions (http://www.foiled..co.uk/), have commissioned me to do. Rather than it being a soundtrack type of track it's aimed at the pop industry. It's a big beat affair with a laid back seventies funk vibe. I'm also fininshing off a couple of new Grebeau tracks with Lindsay, which I'm really excited about. 7) What's your long term vision for Grebeau? At the moment, Grebeau do not have a record contract. So my initial goal would be to get one. I reckon the new stuff I'm doing with LIndsay will do it for us, and of course the Monkey Magic Remixes ;) So if there is anyone reading this.... Very long term : Create great music that everyone can enjoy and listen too. Also, like I mentioned above, to compose some music for films, or other media channels. I'm also putting the finishing touches to a new P:l project as well. - --- Howell _________________________________________________________________ Find a cheaper internet access deal - choose one to suit you. http://www.msn.co.uk/internetaccess - --------------------------------------------------------------------- + List guidelines: http://www.monkeyheaven.com/guidelines.html + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help? Episode 15 will be shown on Channel 4 on Friday 15 August 2003 night, after midnight, at 01:50am - 02:45am (which strictly speaking is then Saturday 16 August 2003) 15. Monkey Meets the Demon Digger While climbing a mountain, the pilgrims discover a man who's been digging a tunnel through the mountain for the past twenty-two years, to provide an easier route for travellers. Ever-helpful Tripitaka tells his reluctant disciples that they must all stay and help dig the tunnel until it's finished. When Monkey uses his magic to help speed things up, Tripitaka is furious and dismisses him. Without Monkey around, the pilgrims fall into grave danger. Howell ps I've not heard anything yet about the viewing figures for episode 14 last Friday, but I'll pass them on when I find out. _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free.
