(Thanks to all who responded) The good news is my friend returned yesterday with disks 1-5 :-). Now the bad news. The Monkey FAQ maintains that it should be possible to play these R4 encoded disks on a computer DVD-CDROM drive, unfortunately this is no longer correct. All new DVD-CDROM drives are now region crippled and therefore will not play DVD's from another region. There is a work around if you're lucky enough to have a drive from a manufacturer with a specific rom revision on this list (and are willing to take the risks): http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/dvd/dvdfi.htm Unfortunately I'm not one of those lucky ones :-(. Now for those of you not in R4 and manage to get a hold of the DVD version of Monkey, there is a solution. A company called DVDCity at http://www.dvdcity.com have got an all-in-one solution. They are offering modified DVD players that are not only region independant, but also convert PAL to NTSC and vica verse, for $199us see: http://www.dvdcity.com/refurb/smc-dvd3300r.html for details Just thought I'd pass this information on and hopefully help someone else from suffering the disappointment I had this morning. - --- Gord Mc.Pherson (2d0h17m) S@H: 2098 WU's @ 6.024 years (cool) - -------------------------------------------------------------------- + List guidelines: http://www.geocities.com/saiyuuki/guidelines.html + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help?
