We discussed their London concert, and she assured me that they're still thinking of coming to London, but there's lots of things to organise. For example, they need a sponsor for the concert, to pay for them to come to the UK. They initially had a sponsor for the TV documentary that they're planning to make for the concert. They also were told by NHK (Japan's equivalent of the BBC or ABC - the government-run TV channel) that they'd be interested in showing the documentary. However, since NHK isn't allowed to show sponsored TV shows, they wouldn't be able to show the documentary if the documentary was done under sponsorship. So they've found a company (Tomorrow Land - has shops all over Japan) who'll sponsor the actual show, so that the documentary produced would be sponsorship- free, and could be showed by NHK. I also believe they're got provisional sponsorship by Japan 2001, the Japan festival that's taking place all over the UK throughout this year - see the web site for more info: http://www.japan2001.org.uk There's _so_ many things to put into place before they can even think of coming to the UK... but the representative assured me that we shouldn't give up hope, and that they are working on it, but it's taking a long time. There's a dance group based in Tokyo who recently did a "Monkey" show... the people playing main characters (Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy, Tripitaka) are possibly interested in bringing their show to the UK! The guy playing Monkey bears a resemblance to Masaaki Sakai in Monkey One idea that was mentioned for the Sans Filtre show is that - before Sans Filtre come on stage, why not have the Monkey guy from the dance group come on stage to get the audience worked up - he could do lots of stick-fighting poses, maybe with "Monkey Magic", and then, from nowhere, Masaaki Sakai would appear on stage and start singing! (I mentioned that fans would like to see Masaaki Sakai appear on stage as Monkey, but he wouldn't be interested in doing this - so that's when they suggested the guy from the dance group could appear as Monkey instead) This is all hypothetical at the moment, remember... and there's no guarantees that Sans Filtre will come to London with their show. I've offered them my full assistance with anything I can do to help make this once-in-a-lifetime concert happen... So everyone keep your fingers crossed, ok! :*) Howell PS Something else that their representative told me is that apparently Sans Filtre aren't in it for the money at all - they've all had good careers throughout their lives, so they don't need the money. They're in it for the experience of it - they play concerts because they want to, not because they have to. They play whatever songs they want. Apparently they're a Japanese businessman's dream because they're basically 3 guys doing what they want to do. She also told me that there's _no plans_ for any more Sans Filtre - their 3- track CD that was released in 2000 is likely to be their one-and-only release. Apparently, people keep writing songs for them, but they never seem to get anything that they like, so they turn them down. However, they are quite interested in songs that are sent to them by Italian musicians. ________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- + List guidelines: http://www.geocities.com/saiyuuki/guidelines.html + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help?
