The program called "SAIYUKI"
Yes the same version everyone 
adores :)
It was shown here in the USA.
It may have played in Los Angeles
or New York,I don't know^^;;
But I can personally attest San Francisco was one of them^_^ It may have
been subtitkled^^;;But its been over two decades,so its hard to
remember^;;
It was either KTSF or KEMO(KOFY)The 1st season was shown.Not 2nd
season:( 
Just clearing this up.

I guess he didn't want to get typecast as a pig....and I suppose there was
the danger that he would always be associated as Pigsy, and people would
find it hard to take him seriously in anything else.

Still a shame he left the show though, it was never the same after that!
