I'll try to use my asianwired.net address after this.] I never really liked Yep's stories, mainly because they seemed dated. They are. =) If any of the books seem a little sexist, then that's because it was the attitude of the times, just like in old England. For non-sexist Chinese folklore, read "The Yang Warriors." Yang Paifeng, a kitchen maid, managed to defeat not only the head of the Song army, but the enemy's leaders as well. =) Go to any children's section of a library and you'll find many of Yep's books. "Tripmaster Monkey" by Maxine Hong Kingston is a fabulous book. Not only does it show the side of Chinese America that everyone else seems to ignore, but Wittman Ah Sing is the modern reincarnation of Monkey. ^^; It's well-written, and can relate to a lot of people. By the by, for the sir in New Zealand...I do hope they actually ask a few Buddhists about Monkey! things.
