"When it's time, we'll poke a hole under your ribs for the baby to come through." My mum tells me the original book had something like this: "When it's time, the baby will come out of your armpit." Just wondering. Happy New Year! Some of the poem are battles or descriptions of banquets etc. Monkey (Pilgrim Sun/Su Wu'kung/Great Sage - Equal to Heaven)is very much the anti-hero and bully, Pigsy (Chu Pa-chieh/Chu Wu-neng/Marshal of Heavenly Reeds) is lustful but not asmuch as the TV series makes out and Sandy (Sha Wu-ching/Sha Monk/Great Curtain Raising Warrior) gets to look after the horse and tries to keep Tripitaka (Hsuan-tsang) safe when Monkey is fighting demons or looking for food. Though Tripitaka in the TV series is wiser and 2000% braver than the one in this translation. I do hope that this Hallmark production is better then how I see it might be after checking out that website - I guess that is Kuan Yin though :( - the Dharma and Greg guy is supposed to be the modern reincarnation of Tripitaka it looks like - hrmphh! all the volumes of the book are fun to read but for 12 years and older since the Monkey King does kill without much thought put into the consequences until Tripitaka decides to use the tight-fillet spell. happy 2001!
