I looked through every page of all the Guardian newspaper supplements, and there was no mention of Monkey anywhere. Regarding unconfirmed Monkey publicity, there are no Monkey features in the new issues of: FHM Bizarre Q Empire Viz However, there is a Monkey review in the May 2000 issue of Select magazine - this was not in the confirmed Monkey PR list. It's been given 4/5 - no videos reviewed get 5/5, but some of the others get 4/5 too. - --- Monkey Fabulous Films, £12.99. Director: various. Starring: Masaaki Sakai, Shiro Kishibe. 12 certificate From its opening credits showing a monkey bursting out of a turd through to the crisis of sexuality that foxy monk Tripitaka inspired in many adolescent boys, Monkey beat even Tucker-era Grange Hill to be the '80s kids programme of choice. And unlike the Hill, Monkey taught nothing but sound philosophical lessons based on the teachings of buddha. Watching the videos now, you can see how ironic the whole thing was, with its blasphemous use of funky disco music and double entendres inserted by embittered English translators. With plans for all 39 episodes to be released in the next year, Pokemon doesn't stand a chance.
