Re: [monkey] Videos release ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 07 Mar 2000 11:40:24 GMT From: "Howell Parry" Subject: [monkey] Getting the BBC to repeat Monkey I contacted the BBC again recently, to see if they would consider repeating Monkey. I strongly urged them to pass on my message to someone who makes the scheduling decisions - usually, I just get an 'automatic' response from them, and I begged them to consider my request. I got this reply from them: - -- Dear Mr Parry Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Monkey'. At present there are no plans to repeat this programme. I have however logged another request for the programme to be repeated, for our scheduling department. I'm afraid I have no information about why the series has not been repeated. You will appreciate that we have many thousands of programmes and the decision on when and if to show repeats depends on many factors. Thank you again for taking the time to write. - --- Here's the message I sent them: - --- I'm wondering if the BBC would ever consider re-purchasing the rights to show the Japanese TV show "Monkey", which was immensely popular on BBC2 in the late 1970s / early 1980s. I know the BBC does not currently own the UK broadcasting rights to show this programme, but since no-one else in the UK is currently showing it, they are available for anyone to buy. I've emailed the BBC about this before, and I've always been told my comments will be passed on, so I'm wondering who do I really need to speak to, to ask them about re-acquiring the "Monkey" broadcasting rights? Is there any way the general public could persuade the BBC to show "Monkey" again - would some kind of petition or letter-writing campaign help? Could you also tell me if the BBC have made a conscious decision not to repeat Monkey again, and if so, why? Thanks in advance, Howell - --- I truly believe that with enough interest, the BBC would repeat Monkey. Could everyone in the UK go to this page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/contact/feedback.shtml and send the BBC a request to show Monkey. We _can_ make this happen, I know we can. I'd like to put a plug on my site for Monkey fans to contact the BBC, but I'm afraid that may appear a bit too much - telling everyone to bombard the BBC may not be appreciated, especially if someone at the BBC sees the instructions on my site. But as far as the mailing list goes - I think everyone in the UK should contact them. Be sure to ask them to log your request for Monkey to be repeated with the BBC's scheduling department. Fabulous Films would like to release the videos on 3rd April, but it all depends on the BBFC certifying them. BBFC currently have a backlog of 900 or so films (at least they did last week), and there's no way of advancing it in the queue. If BBFC get time to certify them soon, they'll be released on 3rd April, else 17th April is more likely. Howell PS By the way, the information on the Monkey videos in Blackstar is a bit messed-up at the moment... 1) It says 1990 in brackets after the video name 2) Both videos are listed with the same catalogue number? (FAB4153). In reality, the 2nd video's catalogue number is FAB4154 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - --------------------------------------------------------------- + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help? It turns out that it also features David Collings (Monkey's dubbed voice). Here's the message: - --- I recently purchased the BBC dramatization of "Lord of the rings" Peter Woodthorpe(pigsy) did the voice of Gollum in the radio play as well as the 1978 animated film. I was pleasantly surprised to find that David Collings(Monkey) is also in the radio play - He plays the character of Legolas. So these two gentleman have worked together before, although I don't know what was done first, 'Monkey' or the BBC radio play. I hope you find this useful. The 13 cd set can be purchased from Amazon and has Ian Holm as editor and actor. - --- Howell ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - --------------------------------------------------------------- + To unsubscribe, send an email to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with 'unsubscribe monkey' in the body of your message + Need help? Here's why: 1) The release date matches the one Fabulous Films first came up with (17th April) 2) The catalogue number is correct for the first video (FAB4153) - no other video would have this same catalogue number. "FAB" indicates it's a Fabulous Films video, and they're _definitely_ not planning on releasing any other "Monkey" TV series - they've got enough to do with this one :) The "1990" must just be a typo.
