For those of you who think it will be exactly like 'Monkey', don't even consider buying the game. Here's a snippet from the review of the game in the Jan 1999 issue of the Official Playstation Magazine: "Let's get one thing straight from the start. If you're old enough to remember the original Monkey TV series and are hoping that Monkey Hero is going to let you relive its staff-spinning, cloud-riding nonsense, then you're going to be disappointed. For although it's based on the same Chinese myths - and there's certainly a fair amount of staff-spinning involved - there's no sign of Pigsy or the religious lady and her horse-that's-really-a-dragon-in-disguise-but-nobody-realises. There's not even a single dubbed cry of 'Monkey' to be heard." So make your own minds up... a wasted opportunity I feel. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 12:59:37 -0000 From: "Piers Lehmann" Subject: RE: [monkey] BBC I'll agree with that .....do it .... :) Piers - -----Original Message----- From: owner-monkey@valinor.eldar.org [mailto:owner-monkey@valinor.eldar.org]On Behalf Of Howell Parry Sent: 12 January 1999 10:57 To: monkey@valinor.eldar.org Subject: [monkey] BBC If you'd like to help convince the BBC to show Monkey again one day, go to their Sci-Fi forum on their Beeb website, and add a message to the "Does Anyone out there remember Monkey? But recently it seems that was taken off and won't be on again for the rest of the month. But they've done that for a few months now, taken it off and putting it on at that time slot for a while, so it may come back next moth for a few weeks. It is his cause-and his portion-to quit all earthly zeals; He'll be enlightened without worries or cares. He may be expected to meet some approving one Who will reveal the origin and the dharma of all things. one more describing a fight between Pilgrim(Monkey), Pa-chieh(Pigsy) and some monsters: Wielding the treasure staff, Striking with muckrake; They would not speak as if they were estranged. Since wood mother constrained the spatula, The two engaged in a combat fierce. No win or loss; With determined minds They churned up waves and billows to fight a war. How could this one control his bitter rage? That one found unbearable his pain. Rake and staff went back and forth to show their might; The water rolled like poison in Flowing-Sand. They huffed and puffed! They worked and worked! All because Tripitaka must face the West. The muckrake so ferocious! The staff used with such ease! This one made a grab to pull him up the shore; That one sought to seize and drown him in the stream. They roared like thunder, stirring dragon and fish. Gods and ghosts cowered as the Heavens grew dim. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jan 1999 13:43:02 +1100 From: TOLLEY Matthew Subject: RE: [monkey] Translation of 'Journey to the West' > Here you go: > Cool =) Anybody wanna lend me US$100? to buy the full four-volume set? =) A side note: I've been learning about the Tzu Wei, or Purple Star system of Chinese astrology. It's a lot more complex than the usual animal sign fluff you find in magazines and newspapers, requiring the calculation of factors such as a person's Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, sixty year cycles, the positions of several real and imaginary stars (with great names like 'Sheep's Blade') in 'houses' or 'palaces', and so on. Still, animal signs are an important part of determining a person's overall character. I was particularly interested to note that a Monkey's 'most unsuitable business partner is someone born in theyear of the Pig...anyone born in a Pig year will be tricked and dominated by the Monkey.' Sound familiar? =) Cheers ...Matt... ------------------------------ End of Monkey Digest V1 #403 **************************** ----------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the Monkey Mailing List digest list, send mail to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe monkey-digest To send a message to the list, send mail to: monkey-digest@valinor.eldar.org If you have any problems or questions, send mail to: owner-monkey@valinor.eldar.org For lots more information and news about "Monkey", check out the Monkey! web site: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/8153/
