Enjoy! Howell - ----- I didn't know that Monkey was aired abroad, that people knew about it. This is one of the few 20 year-old dramas in Japan that still manages to re-run today. I watched it as a child and I still try to watch it whenever I have a chance. Okay, this is some feedback about some of the cast. I say that all the cast of "Monkey" has done quite well over they years. Though Masako Natsume(Tripikata) has had a tragic death, her beauty is still praised by a new generation of Japanese fans. Every year media covers memorial specials and her grave is surrounded by bright yellow sunflowers, which had been her favorite. Masaaki Sakai(Monkey) is a popular host and entertainer at many TV programs, and occasionally an actor. He currently plays a part in an NHK(a national network, sort of like BBC. Sort of.) historical drama" TOKUGAWA YOSHINOBU"(perhaps you can see it in an Asian TV network, if wherever you live in has enough Japanese population). He is also known to be a devoted husband. Toshiyuki Nishida(Pigsy) has persued his acting career most seriously. He is now one of Japan's most renowned actors, who is capable of playing both comical and serious role. He starred in at least two NHK historical dramas and countless others. I think he's focusing more on his movie career these few years. Currently he has a long-run movie series which premiers annually. We occasionally see him in TV commercials too. Shiro Kishibe(Sandy) is currently experiencing a drastic turnaround in his life. He had been very successful hosting a morning gossip show for housewives until April, when he issued a nonpayment bill and declared himself bankrupt with a total debt of several million yen. His show called him off the very day and former-Sandy sort of disappeared from the public until last month. Had the media stirring for a while, a gossip-show host being an object of gossip himself. By the way, that show simply changed its host and is going on as if nothing's happened. Shiro Kishibe showed up on a private interview for a different channel twice, and I haven't heard about him since. It's kind of sad, more so for me because all the cast on "Monkey" were childhood heroes to me and I wanted them... I don't know, undisgraced? So, as you can see, all cast has, so to speak, "outgrown" Monkey. The Japanese people now have a more different image for each one. But, nobody can really forget about that show either. They'll think: "Yeah, I remember one time when those actors played this cheap drama called "Monkey" and boy did I love it..." I am told that Masaaki Sakai(Monkey) was once requested to revive "Monkey" in a parody show but he declined, saying that the show was quite special to him and best kept untouched. Well, that's about it for my feedback. I've never seen an English version, but I hope to see it one day. I look forward to your new summaries, too. Thank you! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jun 98 16:09:55 GMT From: Nikki Brown Subject: [monkey] Siren Entertainment and Monkey Hi all Well that's interesting to read about Siren Entertainment isn't it.
