This was "Monkey Swallows the Universe", and I agree, it was a great episode! To pretend to be his brother, didn't Monkey just have a fake moustache? No-one would recognise him with a fake moustache, would they? :) Howell ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 23:46:09 +0100 From: Warren Pilkington Subject: [monkey] [Fwd: Monkey Magic single - hot news!] This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --------------09EE3648274B12F6D2E15792 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit - --------------09EE3648274B12F6D2E15792 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-ID: <356B386E.84559747@globalnet.co.uk> Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 22:47:26 +0100 From: Warren Pilkington X-Mozilla-Draft-Info: internal/draft; vcard=0; receipt=0; uuencode=0; html=0; linewidth=0 X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.05 [en] (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Monkey Digest Subject: Monkey Magic single - hot news! Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi everyone, Well, I heard a revelation and a half today - the fruits of some labour, so to speak. There will soon be available in the UK (and soon worldwide) a revamped version of the 'Monkey Magic' single. I managed to hear a preview of it on Manchester's local radio station Key 103 today on the Pete and Jeff show (1-4pm in the afternoon) and I am pleased to report it keeps up the spirit of the original whilst making it quite funky to dance to (just like Tripitaka does in the episode 'Outrageous Coincidences'!) I was very slightly involved in this - as a while back a record producer contacted me with a view to needing a copy of the single recording. As he lived locally to me I contacted him and arranged a meeting to discuss the thing. Thankfully the project seemed a good one, and so they had a recorded copy of my 7" single to work from. (kind, aren't I?) They also noticed that with the current kung fu trend of dance music in the UK charts, such as 187 Lockdown's 'Kung Fu' and now Bus Stop's revamping of the classic 'Kung Fu Fighting' this would be an ideal time to release it. And do not worry, Godiego will not have to sue. I have it on good authority that their record company have been consulted so that when it is released they'll get some royalties out of it. So on to the single - they have someone doing the narrator's voice for a little 10 seconds, then it comes in with the classic MONKEYYYYYYY! shout and the start of the song. Mostly the lyrics do follow the same as the Godiego original, but instead of 'Until he was saved by a kindly priest, and that was the start of their pilgrimage west' it has 'He knew every magic trick...' again. The male voice who sings the main vocals is up to it, the funky guitar and synth lines are present with a quite distinct beat. Thankfully there is none of those really annoying 'yeah! ooh!' samples in there, but they nicely put in the middle bit between the second verse and the voice 'with a little bit of Monkey Magic..' some more narration. One little thing that bugs me (a minor point) was they've got him saying 'the nature of Monkey was unstoppable' instead of 'irrepressable..'. Needless to say, I love it. Thankfully I managed to get a decent cassette recording from radio, so I can enjoy it. Those of you who do live in Manchester tune in to Key 103 between 1-4pm and you may just hear it. I am in the process of trying to get a promotional radio copy of the CD single, so maybe I can then make a 30 or 45 second MPEG3 preview of the track, which I'll ask Howell to place on his website if he has the space left. If not, I'll place it on mine and give you all the exclusive URL when I've done so. This MAY just be the incentive to convince the TV company involved to release Monkey on video, as the single is planned for a Japanese release as well and if it does well it will generate interest. Of course, those of you in mainly Australian territory who want it can always order it from England - I'll try and give you all some mail order addresses nearer the time of release, which would be around August I think. On another note, one of my C64 tunes has a hidden cover version of 'Monkey Magic' in the tune. If you want to hear it, first go and get Sidplay (it plays C64 music on your PC, Mac or Amiga) from this website: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/5147/sidplay.html And then simply download my tune Nukenin and the Ronin direct from here: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~wazzaw/Nukenin_And_The_Ronin.zip Play it in Sidplay and listen for that cover! Kind regards, fellow muck rake admirers, Warren.
