I was suprised to see that there actually are websites about Monkey! I'm 16 and I always watched Monkey when it was on Sky 1 years back. Recently I taped the pilot ep when it was on BBC2's Kung-Fu night and it brought back all the memories of the great series. So now I'm watching and taping it on Bravo and I must say it's *great* to see the series back on the air! - -Anni ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 02:19:28 PST From: "Howell Parry" Subject: [monkey] Monkey on video - will BBFC edit it? Hi! Recently, we've been discussing whether or not Monkey has been edited for TV. I got this email last night from a Monkey fan; he reckons that if it's ever released on video, it will get edited by the BBFC because of the martial arts weapons used. Here's his message: > If video distribution rights are secured for Monkey in the UK, > it will almost certainly be censored by the BBFC! > While the series obviously contains no obscene material, the > types of martial arts weapons on show will cause huge chunks > to be removed. > > Nunchucks are a definite no-no. > > Why do you think only three of the Teenage mutant Ninja > Turnips were armed in the UK release of the movie? > > Nunchucks (I hope that's how you spell it) were also responsible > for massive cuts to Bruce Lee movies on video and film. > > Nunchucks and other elaborate weapons feature very frequently > in the fight sequences (generally being wielded by baddies), and > unless our censors relax a wee bit, the only way we'll be able to > see Monkey in its entirity is on TV, where the BBFC has no > juristiction. > > Sad innit? What do you think? Howell PS Does anyone know what nunchucks are? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 10:45:28 GMT From: "Saif Rivers" <9552049x@mmu.ac.uk> Subject: [monkey] Nunchuks > From: "Howell Parry" > To: monkey@valinor.eldar.org > Subject: [monkey] Monkey on video - will BBFC edit it? > Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 02:19:28 PST > Reply-to: monkey@valinor.eldar.org > Hi! The law of the land had decreed that no-one apart from the Samuri may carry weapons so the farmers improvised with their tools so they could defend themselves. They consist of two pieces of wood about 1 to 1 and a half feet in length attached at the top by a chain or rope, they are swung in quite a dramatic style around the body and look pretty damn cool when in use. Apparantly they can deliver enough force when used properly to crack a mans head open! Your friend is right about the censors not liking them, they are absolute idiots though, they will allow guns and bombs and knives to be depicted in film yet have a real problem with Nunchucks! Hope this has clarified the situation. To answer your question, Howell, nunchucks are two short cylindrical pieces of wood held together by a small chain between them (justwatch any Bruce Lee movie, he's sure to be weilding some). However I don't recall them ever being used in Monkey... ~Daniel - ------------------------ The Amazing Astroboy! http://www.astroboy.home.ml.org - ------------------------ - ---------- > From: Howell Parry > To: monkey@valinor.eldar.org > Subject: [monkey] Monkey on video - will BBFC edit it? > Date: Friday, 30 January 1998 2:19 > > Hi! You throw them at your opponent and they wrap around his neck rendering him either unconscious or killing him. I just checked these out; the web page looks great, but I have trouble downloading the files. The download rate is extremely slow, and my connection times out every time I try to download them (I've tried all of them). My access is usually very fast, but seems to be very slow when accessing these files; I assume it's a slow server? Is there any possibility of relocating them on a faster server? Thanks - can't wait to see these movie files, Howell ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 00:28:31 -0800 From: "Daniel" Subject: Re: [monkey] More Monkey movie files? - ---------- > From: Howell Parry > To: monkey@valinor.eldar.org > Subject: Re: [monkey] More Monkey movie files? > Date: Friday, 30 January 1998 5:14 > > I just checked these out; the web page looks great, but I have > trouble downloading the files. You're right though, I just tried to download one of the files and it's taking forever! Crosswinds (where the files are hosted) will more than double its bandwidth in 4 days, so hopefully the files will be easier to download then. If not, I'll relocate them elsewhere. ~Daniel - ------------------------ ICQ#: 986091 The Amazing Astroboy! http://www.astroboy.home.ml.org - ------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 01:59:47 -0800 From: "Daniel" Subject: Re: [monkey] More Monkey movie files - faster server OK Howell (and anyone else who is interested), I have relocated the monkey AVI files to this site: http://www.fortunecity.com/lavendar/sydenham/134/index.html Hopefully it will be faster. NB. I am just uploading the files now, so you should be able to download them all in about 45 mins. ~Daniel - ------------------------ ICQ#: 986091 The Amazing Astroboy! http://www.astroboy.home.ml.org - ------------------------ ------------------------------ End of Monkey Digest V1 #187 **************************** ----------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the Monkey Mailing List digest list, send mail to: majordomo@valinor.eldar.org with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe monkey-digest To send a message to the list, send mail to: monkey-digest@valinor.eldar.org If you have any problems or questions, send mail to: owner-monkey@valinor.eldar.org For lots more information and news about "Monkey", check out the Monkey! web site: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/8153/
