Weir wrote the English scripts - funnily enough, he *nearly* wrote for _Doctor Who_. He also did the English _Water Margin_, _The Lotus Eaters_ and wrote for such series as _The Onedin Line_. I think I read somewhere (here, even?!) that it was David Collings who provided Monkey's voice. As well as playing Mawdryn in the _Doctor Who_ story 'Mawdryn Undead', he's also been in things like _Elizabeth R_, _Sapphire & Steel_ (playing the semi-regular Silver), _The Ruth Rendell Mysteries_ and _Press Gang_. >I've no idea who all the other actors were - anyone got any ideas? No: the beeb used to list the UK-based actors for _The Water Margin_, but didn't for _Monkey_, though I suppose it's possible there was an overlap of personnel. He was also the voice of Gollum in both the cartoon-movie version of The Lord of the Rings as well as in the BBC Radio version. He also had a very minor part in the movie The Madness of King George III as a priest who accepted a bribe from the Prince of Wales. regards, David McBryde (d.mcbryde@mailbox.uq.edu.au) Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 1997 00:24:14 +1000 (EST) From: Nick McCarthy Subject: [monkey] Re: MONKEY ENGLISH VOICES thing that always intrigued me was that the show was dubbed -I always thought the actorsthe actors/actresses who did the voices were perfect and always wondered who they were.... Anyone know anything ? All I know is that a English guy called David Weir did the voice of Monkey, and that he has appeared in numerous tv shows, including Doctor Who. David Weir didn't do the voice of Monkey, David Collings did. Weir was responsible for the English translation, so presumably he took care of most of the writing chores. I think I read somewhere (here, even?!) that it was David Collings who provided Monkey's voice. Yes, you did read it here. I, Nick McCarthy- king of pedantic trivia, sent the message :) As well as playing Mawdryn in the _Doctor Who_ story 'Mawdryn Undead', he's also been in things like _Elizabeth R_,_Sapphire & Steel_ (playing the semi-regular Silver), _The Ruth Rendell Mysteries_ and _Press Gang_. I've no idea who all the other actors were - anyone got any ideas? The voice of Pigsy is Peter Woodthorpe, who did the voice of Gollum in both the cartoon movie and the BBC radio Drama of the Lord of the Rings.
