Godiego are such a good band; yet it seems only people in Japan (and Monkey fans) know them. There's very little (in English) about them on the Internet. Make sure you listen to this MIDI file of Gandhara: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/8153/gandharamid.zip Howell ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Aug 1997 10:18:51 +0100 From: wu0dbr@intdev.sunderland.ac.uk (BRADMAN Dawn) Subject: RE: [monkey] Holy and Bright (again!) I received my "Godiego Great Best Vol. 2" CD from Japan today. It features "Holy and Bright", the ending music from the last season of Monkey, along with "Monkey Magic", "Gandhara", and lots of other songs which are not related to Monkey. It arrived just before I was due to leave for work; so I listened to "Holy and Bright" before I left. It had been 16/17 years since I last heard this song, and I'm afraid to say that, at the moment, I tend to agree with the majority who don't like this song. On first listening, it sounded very lightweight and in a completely different league to "Gandhara" - which is an undisputed classic song. I intend to listen to this CD lots, and who knows, "Holy and Bright" might grow on me after a while, but I somehow doubt it :( Howell ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------ Message Header Follows ------ Received: from valinor.eldar.org by missgate.sunderland.ac.uk (PostalUnion/SMTP(tm) v2.1.9f for Windows NT(tm)) id AA-1997Aug05.084944.1814.614118; Tue, 05 Aug 1997 08:49:48 +0100 Received: (from major@localhost) by valinor.eldar.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id DAA12285 for monkey-outgoing; Tue, 5 Aug 1997 03:31:43 -0400 (EDT) Received: from f73.hotmail.com (F73.hotmail.com [207.82.250.159]) by valinor.eldar.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id DAA12274 for ; Tue, 5 Aug 1997 03:31:33 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from root@localhost) by f73.hotmail.com (8.8.5/8.8.5) id AAA04747; Tue, 5 Aug 1997 00:30:55 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <199708050730.AAA04747@f73.hotmail.com> Received: from 194.130.60.5 by www.hotmail.com with HTTP; Tue, 05 Aug 1997 00:30:54 PDT X-Originating-IP: [194.130.60.5] From: "Howell Parry" To: monkey@valinor.eldar.org Subject: [monkey] Holy and Bright (again!) I got it from this excellent online CD store, Comfort: http://web.kyoto-inet.or.jp/people/ohkura/ENGLISH/main.html Just follow the instructions for "Placing an order", and let them know which CD you're interested in. They can get this CD I've just mentioned, which has "Holy and Bright" on it, and also the "Magic Monkey" CD which has lots of music from Monkey. It cost just US $24 - this included shipping from Japan to the UK. When you've placed your order, from the UK, you have to send them US dollars in cash - I just got some from my local travel agents. In total, it took about 2 weeks to place the order and receive the CD. Howell >Howell > >Where did you get the CD from? Do you have an address to write to to get >this CD? Since I've not seen the whole series in a looong time, I don't remember any other songs. Various people on this list have this "Magic Monkey" CD - have any of you noticed other songs in the TV series, which are not on this CD? If so, I wonder if they're available on other Godiego CDs... Well, the J's might eventually play "Gandhara" in the "Freaked Out Requests" segment (where they play unusual, obscure or downright shit music like Vanilla Ice or Spice Girls!). However, Godiego is not really a known group in this country so it's doubtful whether Triple J would have any of their albums. You never know though.... I have just read some messages about the music in the series and may have something interesting. Ages ago I bought the Monkey soundtrack on tape from an ABC shop: for those of you in Australia you'll know that's now the place where The Wiggles reside. Anyway, I'm at work now so I can't recall all the details but it has about ten or twelve songs on it and it's performed by Godiego and all the songs are in English. It has the themesong and Gandhara and some others like "Dragons & Demons", "Thank You Baby" and "Asiatic Fever". I remember that some of the tunes are played during the episodes but the words aren't included. Does anyone else have this or have I got something pretty rare?
