That's an amazing suggestion, Robert! I imagine there'd be loads of double-entendres introduced into the script; I suppose it *could* work! One of his lines could be "Behave Monkey, or I'll have to spank you. Ooh, I love to spank the monkey!" No really i think this would work if James Cmeron directed, and Jackie has always wanted to work with american special effects it could reallt work! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 15:33:41 +0100 From: Martin Packer Subject: [monkey] monkey and Jackie Chan Greetings fellow pilgrims, It's been a long journey to find you, and a great battle was fought with the demon of Majordomo, but victory was mine! Now that I've been here a few days, it seemed like a good time to delurk and have my say on the movie thing. >I know that kind of comment won't really make me desperately popular >with the group but when things like this are repeated after such a >long time either by the original cast (not desperately likely) or by >someone new I always find they ruin it for me. > >Monkey was excellent, the memories are too. I'd rather just keep it >that way. Although there's no harm in fantasising about this kind of thing, I agree that a Monkey movie would, in actuality, be a really bad idea. I think there's a particular problem with making a movie of Monkey. The story of the Journey to the West is episodic in nature. Movie goers want a nice self-contained story with a beginning, a middle and an end. As the third season credits say, the pilgrims are "upon a journey as long as life". Not something that can easily be squeezed into 90 minutes. So. How about putting the casting issues to one side for a moment and coming up with some plot suggestions. :-) Thrax (Old cynics 'R' us) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 17:10:12 +0100 From: bcappas@glam.ac.uk (DROWBOY) Subject: Re: [monkey] monkey and Jackie Chan Surely a movie of the meeting of Triptaka and the thre discples could be possible. For a start there is a huge amount missing from the first episode about Monkey and quite alot about Tripitaka as well. Also... While not exactly a grand finale... Meeting up and the hope for the future given by the promise of accompanying Tripitaka to India would be able to give that feeling p of closure in a film if done properely. It could be very good or it could be extra ordinarily bad as well... Hopefully we would see it done by Hong Kong studios like Golden Harvest with a big hollywood budget. Louis ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 09:59:14 +1000 From: - Mitchell Higgins Subject: RE: [monkey] monkey and Jackie Chan Hey Y'all, My name is Mitchell (or Mitch for those of you who cannot be bothered to type the rest :-). I've only just subscribed (been lured into this mail service), and you'll have to excuse me for being a bit ignorant to what all of you are saying, because I've not seen the show for about 10 years. Over here in Australia we do not still have the pleasure of getting it on TV. All that aside I still have some fond memories of the show, such as the constant ridiculing from Monkey to Piggsy. I remember this one time in particular when Monkey was outside this cave fight a heap of bad guys ( but not quite enough for him to rip out some under hair arms and call upon his army (or should it be under-army) of guys), and Piggsy was inside to scared to come out and help and all Monkey could say is "Piggsy you poofter come out here and fight". I also feel that Tripitaka could also be called tripy-take-a, the only reason for me saying so is because of that other episode when Monkey went to call his loyal cloud and a flying magical mushroom came in its place. Anyway that is as much as I can ad for the time being, not just because I've got nothing else that springs to mind also, also due to the fact that I'm sitting here at workand it is now nearly 10 'o'clock. All I've done is read through my E-mails. That's right Louise I feel that what you've said is great, but the general jist of my message is that you couldn't leave out the little battles between Piggsy and Monkey. Look forward to hearing from somebody ( I do not understand how this all works, would somebody explain).
