I'm just wondering how Tripitaka kept Pigsy under control; obviously with Monkey, he could use the 'headache sutra' to shrink his headband. But, when Pigsy was being "lustful" or greedy, how did he keep him under control (get him to stop)? Hmm... In the book, there were three magical fillets mentioned. One of course was the famous one around Monkey's head. What the other two actually were - or even if they were used was not mentioned. The impression I got was that as there were three fillets and three disciples, one would be for each. However - that may not have been the case. Monkey was the only one who needed the leash, the other two were quite well behaved & had something to gain, once the journey was completed. Monkey was promised immortality & officialdom in heaven, but, it was not much fun (and he was immortal anyway), so in order to curtail his animal impulsiveness & brazeness, the headband was needed. Also, they had the goddess of mercy to answer to if any one of them fell out of line... neither Sandy or Pigsy would even consider that ;) hehe... bye. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 14:29:21 +0000 From: "Semprini" Subject: Re: [monkey] How did Tripitaka keep Pigsy under control? > I'm just wondering how Tripitaka kept Pigsy under control; obviously > with Monkey, he could use the 'headache sutra' to shrink his headband. > > But, when Pigsy was being "lustful" or greedy, how did he keep him > under control (get him to stop)? I believe he got Monkey to hit him with a large stick. I think it was near the start of the first series. Pigsy got tempted away by a female Spider Demon (or something) you came onto him then deceived him and tried to kill him. Pigsy vowed then to give up lustful and greedy thoughts and I think it was actually a condition of him being allowed to become human at the end of their journey. Of course it didn't work exactly like that. .oOo. Does anyone remember which one > that was? Ah yes, I remember that one. It was the episode where Tripitaka had to compete against a erm... Taoist priest or something to see which religion would "win" (ie the kingdom in which the contest was being held would then be converted to that religion). Monkey helped tripitaka by being invisible (not sure how he went invisible in the first place though). Actually, I think it might have been the Taoist priest himself who "cursed" Monkey by making him invisible. I remember at a crucial point Monkey was behaving as if he was invisible but they could all see him. John .oOo. Anyone who's ever enjoyed reading Greek myths would surely appreciate the attempt to bring it to a wider audience. besides, couldn't you also accuse G-Force of being a tease - every episode (except for the end), G-Force foils Spectra's plans, but Zoltar always manages to escape, so that he/she(was Zoltar really a woman??) can wreak havoc yet again... m. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Jun 1997 12:27:49 +1000 From: "Clare O'Farrell" Subject: [monkey] pearls of wisdom Chris writes >According to Clare O'Farrell: > >> Monkey to King Youth: 'The fact is we are kings ourselves. Could that have been Ryuichi Sakamoto/Yellow magic Orchestra? I don't know much about Yellow Magic Orchestra, but i remember when i last visited japan, one of my cousins was really into them. And Sakamoto is quite famous - he's been credited on a few movie soundtracks (Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Last Emperor), done some work with Eric Clapton, and was in the Madonna videoclip for "Rain". I think he works solo, on collaborations with other artists and also has some connection with Yellow Magic Orchestra.
