Speaking of Voltron... notice how the power rangers, after they come together, look remarkably similar? I like his spinning lazer blades best... too bad he never used it for any real damamge... always that big sword got to kill. Speaking of Japanese cartoons, there were some pretty depraived ones in the cult Manga series. I saw one recently called "The Wicked City" and I was rather surprised to find that it was full of graphic sex and violence, although the animation itself was superb. Not long afterwards, I saw a real life film version of "The Wicked City" on SBS which was totally bizarre; people were getting slaughtered left, right and centre by a surreal tentacled creature. It was far more violent than Monkey but just as offbeat, Nick. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jun 1997 22:50:15 -0700 From: Tu Chung Subject: Re: [monkey] Do logs wake up in the morning and say "Gee I slept like a human?" There is a very good site, although I can't remember the address for the site (it's on my old 386 PC in C:\links, I'll hook it out). Incidentally I have the whole opening sequence which I downloaded. It's the whole opening seq. for Battle of the planets and takes around 6 MBytes! When I showed it to all at work I was surprised at the sheer amount of people who also remember this series! If anyone wants a copy send me a tape of QIC-80 format (so I can read it on my IOMega Tape 250 or a IOMega ZIP 100 disk). No, it was French. The French are on a par with the Japanese in their huge love of comics - or perhaps the more correct term is graphic novels as sex and violence feature quite extensively in some of them. I've noticed there are a number of animated cartoon series which are French/Japanese collaborations - I'm not sure if there was any Japanese input into Ulysse however. BTW I thought Cobra (I think) which aired on SBS was great and the music by Yello was just right (I already had the album). I was a huge fan of Kimba as a kid! It also had very good music by a famous Japanese electronic musician who visited Sydney at one stage I think and did a huge laser music production near the Harbour Bridge for the bicentennary I think.
