'Gatchaman' was the best, followed by 'Battle of the Planets', and the never-should-have-had-7-Zark-& in it 'G-Force'. I suppose it doesn't really apply to the cartoons, but, it was kinda strange seeing all Asians on tv hehe... Another thing was that crazy monk Tripitaka hehe... I had always thought that she was a guy, as monks tend to be hehe... anyway, all that confusion is resolved now :) Actually, I'm really impressed by all the Japanese cartoons the ABC used to show; G-Force; Kimba the white lion; Battle fo the Planets; Voltorn & of course the immortal Astroboy. Compared to these Scooby-doo was nothing. The only other channel I can remember that showed a Japanese cartoon (Robotech) was channel 10. Now they show Samurai pizza cats, Sailormoon, etc. on the early morning kiddy cartoon shows on cahnnel 7... Off topic, so sorry... bye. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jun 1997 16:19:31 +1000 From: "Clare O'Farrell" Subject: Re: [monkey] Who's your favourite character? >On Mon, 2 Jun 1997, Howell Parry wrote: > >> Everyone, >> >> Who is your favourite character in "Monkey"? Shiroi.....Gatchaman!" Don't ask me why i know the lyrics in Japanese, though - I've never actually lived there. Strange. Perhaps my mum sang it to me when i was a baby. :) > Both shows apparently also had a huge following in Japan. Could I also add to the list : 1) Astroboy 2) Uchuu-senkan Yamato (sorry - again, for some odd reason, I can only remember the Japanese title) - it was the one about the people who go on a journey across the universe in an old seaship that has been converted into a spaceship (which has a huge gun in its hull) There was also another popular series, which i'm not sure if it ever got screened outside Japan, but the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is an inferior imitation of it. Iv'e forgotten what it was called, can anyone help out? m. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jun 1997 15:47:42 +0800 (WST) From: Danny Mok Subject: Re: [monkey] G-FORCE I remember a show on the ABC called Battle of the Planets that had G-Force as a group of 5 people (Mark, Jason, Princess, Tiny and Keopps (sp?)) who were trying to destroy the evil forces of Zaltan and the great Luminous One. Does anyone else remember that show?? It was great! The ABC also showed Star Blazers, which was about a crew of people who were saving earth from the Gamelons/Comet Empire and they were on board a modified Yamato (called the Argo?) that travelled thru space. I think this was the show you were referring to in which you couldn't remember the English name to. These two shows, along with Astroboy and Voltron, made coming home from school so great when I was a kid!!!!
