I thought it was "Monkey". I call it just "Monkey", and if people don't understand which show I'm referring to, I say "You know: Monkey Magic". I think everyone knows what you mean if you say "Monkey Magic", whereas some people won't know what you mean if you just say "Monkey". People here in the UK tend to call it just "Monkey", but I've noticed that people in Australia tend to call it "Monkey Magic". When it's shown on TV in Australia, is it called "Monkey Magic"? Do the titles say "Monkey Magic"? I'm wondering if it has a different name depending which country shows it... (like "Prisoner Cell Block H" in the UK == "Prisoner" in Australia). ? What I have in mind is a short (5-10 line) synopsis for each episode. Of course, this will be very time consuming so I am looking for all members of the mailing list to help me. The episode guide project will start in about 2 weeks, but feel free to do trial synopses before then. What we have to do is organise who will look at each episode so there isn't alot of duplicating of effort, so called division of labour. The reruns in Australia will prove to be invaluable for this purpose. Don't e-mail me just yet, as I'm in the middle of exams. I'll get back when the project starts for real. All you Monkey fans in the UK, let's all contact the BBC, tell them how amazing it was to see "Monkey" on BBC2's "Kung Fu night", and ask them if they're going to repeat it. To email your comments to the BBC, use the Viewer and Listener Correspondence email address: VLC@bbc.co.uk or, if you'd prefer to write to them, write to: Viewer and Listener Correspondence, BBC Villiers House, The Broadway, Ealing, London W5 2PA With an enormous amount of requests for "Monkey" to be re-screened, they might just do it! :) Howell ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 May 1997 18:58:39 +0200 (CEST) From: Eyeless - Champion of Chaos Subject: [monkey] Hello Monkey List type people ! Heya. Just letting you lot know I exist :) I'm a 22 yr old ex-student type from Wales, as if any of you care...anyways... I was half way through reading the book (Abridged translation), and was luckily glancing through the telly paper Saturday morning and saw ep one was on as part of the KungFu night. I was most impressed. It must have been destiny, since I never watch telly normally. Divine Intervention by the Jade Emperor himself, I recon. Anyway, yeah, just making my presence known. Gotta go now, and write a letter off to the BBC pestering to get the whole lot shown. See ya. Its the BBC one which came out with the series. It abriges the original stories but pays more attention to his individual adventures and concentrates on the history of Monkey. Its also very funny and come sover in quite a nice 'myth' style. As an example of the emphasis on Monkey rather than the journey, Tripitaka only comes into it about half way through the book and is a bit of a wet blanket - but Monkey is well cool.
